BLUE CAVE
The Blue Grotto is one of the most beautiful caves in the territory of Castro, a small town located in the province of Lecce, in Salento. The Blue Grotto can only be visited by sea, and is not particularly deep, unlike some of the surrounding caves. The name, as easily understood, probably derives from the wonderful color of the water, an intense blue achieved thanks to the continuous refracting of light in this karst area.
It is a unique cavity, clearly visible, and populated by a great biodiversity of marine fauna, with some species that are even endemic to this cave. It is one of the smallest known caves, being just over 7 meters high and, on average, about 15 meters deep.
